Subclass 190 — Skilled Nominated Visa.

The Subclass 190 is a permanent, points-tested visa granted to skilled workers nominated by an Australian state or territory. Nomination adds points to your score and signals that the nominating jurisdiction wants your occupation filled locally. Permanent residence takes effect from the date the visa is granted, and most states ask nominees to commit to living in that state for a minimum period — commonly around two years — though the residence obligation is not enforced as a hard legal condition of the visa itself.

Why Subclass 190

Why applicants choose this stream.

State nomination opens the door to occupations that may not be available on the independent route — while still granting permanent residence from the day the visa is issued. Here's what draws applicants to it:

  • A pathway for occupations that may not be open under the 189 stream
  • Permanent residence granted immediately, not provisional
  • Nomination points improve your overall competitiveness
  • Eligible family members can be included in the same application
  • Access to Medicare and the public education system on grant
  • A recognised pathway toward Australian citizenship
